Stubble Cultivators

Intercropping helps manage weed populations, facilitate the decomposition of plant residues, control disease outbreaks and prepare the soil for seeding. KUHN offers solutions for stubble cultivation and mixing in a single pass. With tine or multi-purpose disc stubble cultivators, you can be sure to carry out quality work with a simple, robust and efficient tool.

OPTIMER L

Working widths of 9 and 12 metres for professionals looking for the best performance in terms of work output, ease of use and work quality.

CULTIMER M/L

The CULTIMER is the ideal stubble cultivator for your farm. With different models suitable for all agricultural enterprises, these multi-purpose stubble cultivators will allow you to perform three actions in a single pass.

OPTIMER XL

The OPTIMER XL stubble cultivators with 620mm diameter discs are available from 3 to 12 metres wide. The OPTIMER XL range ensures an optimal penetration capacity for working from 5 to 15 cm deep in large quantities of residue.

What is the purpose of a disc stubble cultivator?

This tillage tool is used for surface (5 to 8 cm) to medium (8 to 15 cm) stubble cultivation and seedbed preparation. The OPTIMER L stubble cultivator has 510 mm diameter discs, with small or large notches, to create fine tilth ideal for false seedbeds in shallow tillage and efficiently mix residues from the previous crop for improved mineralisation.

The OPTIMER XL stubble cultivator is equipped with 620 mm diameter discs with large notches for quality breakdown and intensive mixing down to 15 cm at high working speeds.

Advantages of a disc stubble cultivator for tillage

There are many advantages to using a disc stubble cultivator. One of the major advantages is the cutting and burying action allowing to control weed growth and the volume of biomass (plant cover, residues or organic elements). Disc stubble cultivators preserve soil quality by limiting erosion and compaction, which can lead to the depletion of nutrients in the soil over time.

4 advantages of KUHN disc stubble cultivators:

  • Quality of work: KUHN disc stubble cultivators offer exceptional working quality, with forged disc arms, safety elastomer blocks, a variety of available levelling equipment and options including STEADY CONTROL for a constant working depth and optimum ground tracking.
  • Easy passage: the OPTIMER range’s large under beam clearance allows for exceptional driving capacity, even with large quantities of residue. Combined with the positioning of one disc on each arm and an external disc hub, it provides for outstanding capacity for passing through plant residue.
  • Easy to use: stubble cultivation stages must be quick and simple. OPTIMER stubble cultivators are easy to adjust and require very little maintenance, for example, no maintenance is required on roller bearings and discs. Hydraulic adjustments are also available to make the stubble cultivator even easier to use.
  • Multifunctional: the OPTIMER range of disc stubble cultivators can also meet other needs, such as green crop seeding, with a choice of a SH small seed drills to be fitted to the machine or a TF 1512 front-mounted hopper kit.

Types of discs for stubble cultivators

510 mm diameter disc on OPTIMER L

The 510 mm diameter disc is available on OPTIMER L models with large or small notches. Ideal for surface stubble cultivation and soil preparation, it allows for high performance at depths of 3 to 10 cm.

620 mm diameter disc on OPTIMER XL

The 620 mm diameter disc is only available with large notches on the OPTIMER XL range. With its optimal cutting and penetration capacity, it can work at depths between 5 and 15 cm.

Types of stubble cultivators

There are 3 types of stubble cultivators:

  • Independent disc mounted stubble cultivator
  • Folding mounted stubble cultivator
  • Trailed stubble cultivator

Independent disc mounted stubble cultivator

This stubble cultivator is equipped with a fixed frame and is very practical on multi-crop/livestock farms. It stands out for its compactness and its use on smaller tractors.

Folding mounted stubble cultivator

This frame is mounted on the tractor’s lifting arm and features a hydraulic folding system for road transport. The folding mounted stubble cultivator is perfectly suited to fragmented plots and offers sustained work rates in any conditions.

Trailed stubble cultivator

This frame is the most advanced in the OPTIMER range, with working widths available from 4 to 12 metres. It is dedicated to high work rates, you will be able to fit a range of options and equipment to improve the quality of your work and meet the challenges of modern agriculture.

Choice of tamping rollers

A wide range of tamping rollers is available to ensure optimum finish. With almost 10 rollers available across the entire OPTIMER ra  nge, you are bound to find a solution to suit your working conditions or objectives. To suit a wide range of tractors, weights per metre range from 75 to 180 kg depending on the roller.

Working depth and hydraulic pressure

Options such as the STEADY CONTROL system guarantee an even working depth over the entire tool. Hydraulic pressure control allows to reduce fuel consumption with excellent ground tracking, even in hilly plots.

Working widths

The OPTIMER range of disc stubble cultivators is now available for working widths from 3 to 4 metres in rigid mounted (OPTIMER 100 from 3 to 4 metres), folding mounted (OPTIMER 100R from 4 to 6 metres) or trailed (OPTIMER 1000 from 4 to 12 metres) versions.

Hydraulic adjustment on disc stubble cultivators

Adjustments are the DNA of the KUHN range and are kept quick and easy. To save time when starting the work, for example, the working depth of the OPTIMER stubble cultivators can be hydraulically adjusted. Bearings are maintenance-free making them easier to use and avoiding downtime.

Spare parts for disc stubble cultivators

Before starting the stubble cultivation season, it is important to be well equipped. Always check the condition of the spare parts for your disc stubble cultivators.

Wearing parts

The diameter of the discs directly influences tillage:

  • The 510 mm diameter disc is fitted to the “L” version. The high speed of rotation generated by its smaller diameter improves soil expansion.
  • The 620 mm diameter disc is available for the “XL” version. Its conical shape features superior wear tolerance and provides a high soil-penetration and cutting capacity, as well as ideal mixing of residues.

Additional parts

To guarantee maximum performance, particular attention has been paid to the development of parts submitted to high levels of stress:

  • The disc bearing offers maximum comfort without the need for periodic lubrication.
  • The forged disc arm prevents stone-jamming, and the pin, conveniently positioned above the bearing, minimises the risk of residues getting tangled up.
  • The four polyurethane elastomer suspensions absorb shocks and control the pressure and depth of the discs.
